Interesting quote....

From Dr. Mercolas website this morning. It is worth pondering!
"The question is, what kind of food system do YOU want? If every American decided to not eat at a fast food restaurant tomorrow, the entire system would collapse overnight. It doesn’t take an act of Congress to change the food system. All that is required is for each and every person to change their shopping habits.
“That’s why our slogan is, “We’re healing the land one bite at a time.” We want people to understand that when you eat, that is a decision that affects the landscape our children will inherit,” Joel says. “You can make that decision independent of politics and everything else. You could make that decision three times a day. And there are thousands of farmers like us (many of them smaller than us) around the country and around the world, that are waiting to serve that clientele "
SOMETHING TO THINK ABOUT:)

I love the idea but until they stop charging $10 for a pound of organic carrots I don't see this as a reality for my family and most of the people I know are in the same financial boat. My question is why does highly processed foods cost less than all-natural or organic? Surely all those chemicals cost money, so wouldn't not using them make a product cheaper?
We made the switch to all but organic milk at $4 a half gallon (store bought milk was $4 a gallon - so it double our milk expenditures every month)and it is eating up our grocery budget. I just don't see how anyone making what we make can afford it.
Maybe your organic farmer friend could provide some insight?

You are soo right it is cost prohibitive! Only going to get worse too IM afaid. As of today feed prices have gone up by 35% and milk product will be going up starting at 10% increase:(Remember we do what we can. WE grow what we can, sprouting seed is great and possible during the winter. Also, whatever bit you can grow in your garden is helpful. When we are able to buy organic anything we just do a bit at a time. Kroger has sales on aging organic veggies...I think I understand that your groceries are even higher in your part of the country! I do not understand why processed foods are not going to go higher at the same rate. Even yahoo news said that same thing! I do know that chemicals are always a cheap version of the real thing!
